Day 2 Overview
On day 2, the workshop continued the focus on analytical and material-science approaches in heritage conservation.
The morning opened with a session on the combined use of ultrasonic pulse velocity testing and digital technologies, covering theory, US tomography case studies, and discussion, led by Prof. Dr. Stefan Simon (SPK) and Dr. Abdelrhman Fahmy (SPK/UMAS). This was followed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vincent THIERY (IMT) on the role of phase analyses and microscopy in conservation science (Part I), focusing on XRD theory, case studies, and the behavior of mineral building materials.
After lunch, Dr. Ivan Alduk presented the story behind the Stećci nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The afternoon continued with Innovative Materials and Techniques for Preservation II and reflections on interdisciplinary collaboration-lessons from STECCI, by Dr. Abdelrhman Fahmy (SPK/UMAS).
