Overview
As part of the ongoing STECCI Summer Academy 2, a public outreach programme was organised on 2 July 2026 at the Ilijaš Business Centre as part of the local summer festival Ilijaški dani, organised by the Municipality of Ilijaš.
The programme highlighted the importance of connecting cultural heritage, science and local communities through a series of educational and artistic activities. Visitors attended screenings of short documentary films dedicated to cultural heritage and climate change, presentations of poems and epitaphs, a lecture on heritage management delivered by the Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural and Historical Heritage, and the exhibition Symbols and Identity, created by students of the University of Sarajevo – Academy of Fine Arts. The exhibition presented contemporary artistic interpretations of the symbolism and identity embodied in medieval Bosnian tombstones.
By combining scientific knowledge, artistic expression and community engagement, the event reflected the interdisciplinary approach promoted by the STECCI project and encouraged dialogue on the sustainable conservation and valorisation of cultural heritage in the face of climate change.
The event was promoted through the STECCI project website, the Municipality of Ilijaš website, dedicated promotional materials, and social media channels, ensuring broad visibility among both professional audiences and the general public. These dissemination activities contributed to raising awareness of climate-resilient cultural heritage conservation and highlighted the importance of European cooperation in safeguarding shared cultural heritage.
STECCI Summer Academy 2 will continue throughout July with practical in situ conservation activities at the pilot sites, before concluding with its final event on 31 July 2026 at the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo.
