Overview
The programme began at the University of Sarajevo (UNSA), where Professor Nusret Drešković welcomed the participants, introduced STECCI Summer Academy 2 and presented the activities planned throughout the Academy.
Professor Saida Ibragić then provided an overview of the STECCI project, explaining its main objectives, multidisciplinary nature and the different approaches used to address the scientific and practical challenges associated with the research, documentation and preservation of stećci.
Dr Vinka Marinković shared insights gained from her professional experience at the Croatian Conservation Institute. Through examples from her previous work, she highlighted important results, practical experiences and challenges related to the conservation of cultural heritage.
Dr Marija Milchin delivered a comprehensive presentation on limestone monuments, their defining characteristics and the challenges associated with their preservation. She introduced different conservation approaches, fieldwork procedures and laboratory analyses, providing participants with an overview of the methodologies used to assess and conserve limestone heritage.
As part of the practical programme, the participants visited the Križevići stećci site. Professor Edin Bujak presented the history of the site and its monuments, familiarising the students with their historical context, distinctive features and cultural significance.
The first day concluded with a session led by Dr Marija Milchin and Dr Katharina Fuchs, during which the participants were introduced to the practical application of conservation, documentation and analysis methodologies in the field.
