Summary
On 23 September 2026, the STECCI Summer Academy 3 continued with a field visit to Cetinje, giving participants the opportunity to explore stećci within a broader cultural and spatial context.
The programme began at the Lapidarium of the National Museum of Montenegro, where participants were introduced to the historical and symbolic significance of stećci and to the principles of cultural heritage mapping. Goran Pajović, researcher and archaeologist at the National Museum of Montenegro, highlighted the importance of monument location, orientation and relationship with the surrounding landscape.
Participants then took part in a hands-on mapping workshop, examining selected stećci, documenting their physical characteristics, motifs and condition, and discussing their geographical and historical context. The activity was followed by collaborative visual documentation and a group reflection on the role of spatial context in heritage interpretation and preservation.
The programme continued with a guided heritage walk through Cetinje’s historical and cultural centre, focusing on local identity, collective memory and sustainable cultural tourism.
The day concluded with the return journey via the Kotor–Lovćen Cable Car, offering a memorable perspective on Montenegro’s cultural and natural landscapes and their connection with sustainable tourism.
