Overview
Representatives of the STECCI project team from the University of Sarajevo once again joined the annual celebration of the Day of the Old Bosnian Town of Dubrovnik, organized by the Foundation Old Bosnian Town of Dubrovnik (Fondacija Starobosanski grad Dubrovnik).
The event was held at Kopošići and the Old Bosnian Town of Dubrovnik in Ilijaš, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of the twelfth edition of the traditional local manifestation dedicated to heritage preservation and promotion. This year’s programme, organized under the theme “Heritage and Youth”, brought together representatives of cultural institutions, educational organizations, local authorities, project partners, teachers, pupils, and members of the wider community.
During the event, project partners presented ongoing activities related to cultural heritage interpretation, education, and community engagement. The STECCI team (Prof. Dr. Nusret Dreskovic, Assoc. Prof. Saida Ibragic, Asst. Prof. Edin Bujak and Asst. Prof. Amina Sivac) used this opportunity to present activities implemented so far within the project and to introduce upcoming actions planned for the coming months.
Given that both the Kopošići necropolis and the Old Bosnian Town of Dubrovnik are located within the Municipality of Ilijaš, special attention was given to the forthcoming STECCI Summer Academy 2 (SA2), which will include a series of activities organized in cooperation with local stakeholders as part of the traditional manifestation “Ilijaški dani”. Participants were invited to actively engage in these upcoming activities and contribute to strengthening the connection between local communities and cultural heritage.
One part of the SA2 programme will be dedicated to public cultural events in the Business Centre Ilijaš, including a film screening addressing climate change and its impacts on cultural heritage, thematic exhibitions, and other activities designed to encourage dialogue between heritage, sustainability, and local communities.
Visitors were also invited to participate in the STECCI Reporters initiative, which encourages citizens, particularly young people, to document, interpret, and communicate stories related to stećci and local heritage through creative and participatory approaches.
The event provided an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between project partners and local stakeholders while promoting active community involvement in heritage preservation. The continued participation of the STECCI team in this traditional manifestation reflects the project’s commitment to supporting local initiatives and fostering meaningful connections between cultural heritage, education, and community engagement.
