In this episode of Restaurierung Uncovered podcast, Univ.-Ass. Mag. Marija Milchin talks about her research on climate-induced material loss of carbonate rocks in outdoor environments, a topic she investigates as part of her dissertation and the STECCI project. The starting point is a critical examination of existing measurement methods for natural stone objects exposed outdoors. To this end, polished test specimens made from various carbonate stones (including marble and dense limestone) were produced and exposed at different outdoor locations.

At the end of the episode, we discuss the scope of action available to conservators in protecting cultural heritage, and which protective measures should be prioritized in the future.
