Summary
The first day of the STECCI Summer Academy 3, held on 21 September 2026 at the University of Donja Gorica in Podgorica, focused on creative approaches to cultural heritage, particularly the interpretation and valorisation of stećci through film, multimedia and visual arts.
The programme opened with addresses by Sandra Tinaj, General Manager of the University of Donja Gorica, and Professor Dr Nusret Drešković, STECCI Project Coordinator from the University of Sarajevo. The opening also introduced the competition for the Best Multimedia Work by high school and university students in Montenegro, organised around the theme “Stećci – Voices of Eternity”, together with UDG’s Festival of Young Artistic Creation.
The programme continued with the screening of a film produced within the STECCI project by UDG, followed by the award-winning documentary The Secret of Montenegrin Katuns by Montenegrin filmmaker Miki Dragićević. Submitted student works, videos and multimedia materials were then presented, culminating in an award ceremony for the best multimedia contribution.
Miki Dragićević also delivered a lecture on the valorisation of cultural heritage through film, highlighting the potential of audiovisual storytelling in communicating heritage values to wider audiences.
The day concluded with an art exhibition, cocktail reception and networking session featuring stećci-inspired works by Professor Dr Anka Burić from the University of Montenegro, Professor Dr Ćazim Hadžimejlić from the University of Sarajevo, and participating students.
