Successful EU Stecci Project School Activity at Gymnasium Bad Königshofen, Germany, 18. June, 2024.

Bad Königshofen, June 18, 2024 – The Rathgen-Forschungslabor successfully organized an engaging school activity for 9th-grade students at Gymnasium Bad Königshofen as part of the EU Stecci project (WP5). The initiative aimed to connect students with cultural heritage preservation through a series of interactive workshops, engaging 55 enthusiastic participants.

Activity Highlights:

  1. Old Photographs Gallery: Students brought old photographs from their parents’ and grandparents’ outings to local and global landmarks. This activity allowed for a fascinating comparison of past and present landscapes. Each student presented their photographs and shared the stories behind them, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage.
  2. Climate Change and Cultural Heritage Sustainability Workshop: The workshop started with an overview of the causes, factors, and impacts of climate change. Students were then divided into groups to discuss various questions related to climate change, and each group presented their findings to their peers. This activity emphasized the importance of sustainability in preserving cultural heritage.
  3. Mapping Workshop: Armed with colored pencils, students created hand-drawn sketches of their local area, highlighting significant attractions and adding legends to their maps. This hands-on activity helped students develop a better understanding of their community’s cultural landmarks.
  4. Experimental and Practical Session: Using the Karsten tube test, students examined how different sources of water affect the durability of local sandstone. This practical session provided a scientific perspective on the conservation of cultural materials.

The activities were meticulously designed, planned, reviewed, and conducted by Stefan Simon (SPK), Abdelrhman Fahmy (SPK), Rainer Seelmann, and Kristina Neundorf (teachers at Gymnasium Bad Königshofen). Special thanks to the school administration and the students for their serious collaboration. We look forward to more fruitful cooperation in the near future.
